SharePoint Query Builder

Now this is a tool that is going to be useful for my search demos on DevDays. Stramit points us to a new GotDotNet user sample called the SharePoint Query Builder tool. Definitely going to try this out the coming days.

A valuable tool for building and testing queries against Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003. This tool has a Windows interface that lets you connect to a portal and will gather all of a) the properties of crawled documents, b) content indexes and c) source groups. You can then simply point and click to select the items and criteria you want to use for your query, then execute. The search is sent to the SharePoint Query web service and the resultant XML is displayed in an easy to work with interface.

Btw. At DevDays we will release a similar tool but then one enabling you to quickly generate CAML queries with a small application block to have it executed. Our CAML-girl (Karine) is working very hard on it.

I have used both QueryWeb service and Query Provider methos but both are giving error.

By using QueryService following error occurs:

Server was unable to process request. --> Internal server error
...
Dim results() As Object = Me.Invoke("QueryEx", New Object() {queryXml})
... Line 117

Here is the code i am using for this:

Dim queryService As SPSearch.QueryService = New SPSearch.QueryService
Dim xd As XmlDataDocument = New XmlDataDocument
Dim ds As DataSet = xd.DataSet
ds.ReadXml(Server.MapPath("SPSSearch.xml"))
Dim dSPDSet As DataSet = New DataSet
Dim dQString = BuildXMLQuery()
dSPDSet = queryService.QueryEx(dQString)

May be the problem is with BuildXMLQuery(). Can you tell me what XMLQuery i have to pass.

The virtual server that is referenced here is not in the config database
...
