SQL Server Reporting Services Web Parts

Jan has a small review regarding the new SQL Server Reporting Services web parts. We were planning to integrate them in our hardcore DevDays session but looking how they are presented I don't think it is worth showing them.

I fully agree with Jan that this is not what we (and I think a lot in the community) were expecting from these web parts. In short, we simply have two web parts that do nothing else than make use of an IFrame to present the reporting services. A simple content editor web part is able to accomplish the same thing. Well, this said, it opens of course opportunities for the community to build reporting services web parts.

I'm not on the beta myself, but even if they are using an iFrame it going to be a little smarter than a content editor. The connections between webparts would require something rather complicated to pass up information from an iFrame to the surrounding webpart.

As Bryant also found a client side approach is required in many environments. User authentication to the Reporting Server would not work without a Kerberos enabled network if the users connection was being fed from code running on the SharePoint server. This limitation rules out everything other than iFrame or client side script.

I guess the rest of us will see when SP2 is actually released, who knows, at this stage Microsoft might change or even remove this feature. I know I'm looking forward to a set of webparts formally supported by Microsoft, Bryant's solution is very good but without support we would not be likely to build anything mission critical using them.

Hi Bryant

I Have just follwed the steps on how to install the web part

But when i add these web parts onto my WSS site and click on modify shared page>design this page
i donot see the connections option either in the report explorer web part or the report viewer web part.

What might be the reason.
Can you suggest me on what to cross check
