David Cumps, still student but very active in the world of .NET has a couple of nice postings on the forthcoming eID project here in Belgium.
The eID project is an initiative from the Belgium government, to replace the current passport of every citizen by an eID card. This is a smartcard which looks like the current Belgian passport, and contains certificates and identity data on its chip. Main functionalities of the eID card are data capture, authentication and digital signature.
I love to demonstrate it since here in Belgium we are one of the first in the world to start getting the real thing very soon. In fact, a lot of citizens already have the eID card in their pocket.
David explains first what it all entails and then secondly how to use the eID card within your .NET apps. And let us not forget the very good support within InfoPath for signing your data with these type of digital signatures. Stephane Bouillon, one of our local MCS guys here, has written a good article on it on our local MSDN site. Read it here.
For those of you who don't know what the eID looks like, here is the one of Stephane (sorry Stephane, I still have to request mine :-))
Excellent stuff both of you! Thanks very much for that info.
