Forrester has a new report about the penetration of SharePoint within organizations. Interesting to read in the executive summary their statement that the penetration level in Europe is higher than in the States. Based on the travels that I have done, I see Western Europe as one of the regions where SharePoint is beyond the level of simply deploying the portal or WSS sites. Here we are already in the phase of integrating with, customizing and adding on top of SharePoint all kind of applications, bussiness processes and solutions targetting the information worker. In the Eastern European countries the awareness of SharePoint was there but a lot of people still need to make the first jump. South Africa was more or less at the same level as Western Europe. I had a lot of participants from companies that already did major work with SharePoint and they also were more interested in the second phase (the customization and integration phase as I call it). What the States concerns, I just can say something based on the feedback I got from the participants at the Advisor conference last week in Vegas. Actually I think that the majority of US companies are following Western Europe in the adoption but amongst the participants I saw a lot of people for who SharePoint was something they heard about and were very interested in.

So, if you want to read more, dive into your pocket and pay a couple of $100's to read the whitepaper. I will not.... spend all my money on gambling :-)
