The Excel product team has added an interesting posting on their blog explaining the roadmap for the Office Web Components in the next version of SharePoint. Summary is that OWC are being discontinued but further supported. Microsoft bets all of their money on Excel Services to provide the infrastructure with MOSS 2007 to deliver the same and even more powerful and richer experience as what you can accomplish today with the OWC.
