New on gotdotnet: PROJECT SERVER VISUAL STUDIO TEAM SYSTEM CONNECTOR

Microsoft® Office Project Server 2003 and Microsoft Visual Studio® 2005 Team System (VSTS) are two powerful applications that are each used in different ways for management of software development projects. Up-to-date project information requires a seamless integration between the development environment and the project management tool. This illustrative sample solution explains the process for integrating Project Server and VSTS Beta 2. We show how Project Server and VSTS are suitable for integration and guide architects and developers through the process of customizing components that link the project management and software development tools. The integration solution includes a connector between Project Server and VSTS. The Project Creation Wizard (the PCW plug-in) manages many settings and parameters in the initial stage of project creation in VSTS. The solution also includes sample code for a COM add-in for Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003. The COM add-in substantially extends the integration solution and enables project managers to synchronize entities between Project Professional and VSTS. There are recommendations for adapting the solution to the VSTS released version.
