VSTS and BizTalk Stuff

First of all, to all of you a happy, healthy, and productive (leasure and business) 2006! I hope to meet many of you somewhere on this planet.

For me, I hope to cope with all the great new stuff microsoft is bringing out this year, stuff like BizTalk Server 2006, Vista, WPF, WCF, WF, Office 12, Atlas and of course VSTS (and maybe C# 3.0, LINQ and Visual Basic 9???). Expect a bunch of articles from me this year on these subjects. And of course on the personal side of things, I hope to spend a lot of quality time with my wife and children (which I did the last week!). Sleep I'll do when I'm dead :)

VSTS stuff

For those of you who are using pre Visual Studio 2005 tools, The MSSCCI provider is available for download. (From Rob Caron's blog). Before you try it, read this blog (http://blogs.msdn.com/bharry/archive/2005/12/29/507993.aspx) because it doesn't work with everything (yet).

Sam Gentile has a very nice post on Agile development blogs (http://samgentile.com/blog/archive/2005/12/30/32204.aspx).

And I have a question for you out there. Has anyone been able to deploy and run VSTS server side on Longhorn? If so, could you please let me know?

BizTalk stuff...

I am also happy to say that our Advanced BizTalk course has been tested by the nice people or Arcelor and been given a thumbs up (after surviving it :)) I will however need to update the agenda posted on our web site because of time constraints. Or we will have to make it into a bootcamp (9am-9pm).

Live from TechEd - The keynote part 2

Ok, just seen the smart client demo built using VS2005 and SQL2005, with the new RFID technology being built by MS. Every attendee has an (anonymous) RFID tag around their neck (they inject it into your neck when you register :) - no, just kidding, it is built into the attendee pouch you get when registering. This is anonymous because when you register you get the top pouch from a stack... MS is using these RFID tags to track attendees going to various sessions, looking to improve (by putting at the pattern delegates follow to attend sessions, because you of course will have a point of interest and go to related sessions). And to finish the demo, they raffled some prices by randomly select 5 RFID's who were present in the keynote (sensors know who is currently present).

More news: Every teched attendee receives a free (RTM, no beta!) copy of VS2005 and SQL2005 when it is released. Nice, very nice! If you didn't know, Nov 7 is the release date for SQL2005 with VS2005 and BizTalk Server 2006 BETA.

Bored of ORACLE? MS is has a SQL Server Migration Assistant (microsoft.com/sql/migration) allowing yoo to migrate to SQL 2005.

the Connected Systems 2005 Developer Competition

On April 25^th 2005 the SQL Server, Visual Studio and BizTalk teams launched the Connected Systems 2005 Developer Competition.

The Connected Systems 2005 Developer Competition, sponsored by Microsoft Corporation and MSDN Magazine is a skill based competition for professional developers intended to highlight and reward creativity and programming excellence using SQL Server 2005, Visual Studio 2005 and BizTalk 2004/2006.

The competition is open to anyone who practices in the field of technology development, either individuals or organizations. Some eligibility restrictions apply; see Official Competition Rules for details.

Entries will be judged on creativity, innovation, design and technical excellence, usefulness, usability and value by a panel of industry experts selected from the Microsoft Regional Director program.

All competition entrants must be registered and have submitted a description of the application they are entering into the competition by August 30, 2005. The official closing date for final competition entries is September 15, 2005.

All finalists will be invited to join the SQL Server, Visual Studio and BizTalk teams at the Joint SQL Server 2005/Visual Studio 2005/BizTalk 2006 launch event where the Winners will be announced at a dinner the evening before the launch.
